Parking Study
The city's ordinances regulating parking and downtown parking management were a special topic in the Community Transportation Plan. A in-depth parking count project and policy recommendations were conducted from Fall 2008 through Spring 2009 by a Georgia Tech graduate planning student under the supervision of the Planning Director and Assistant City Manager for Community and Economic Development. The project included the following components:
- six weeks of parking occupancy counts in downtown Decatur parking garages and lots
- an online survey of downtown Decatur residents
- an online survey of downtown restaurant and retail owner/tenants
- a meeting with parking garage operators
The final option paper can be found here
A powerpoint presentation showing the change in occupancy rates throughout the day can be found here.
This study was for research purposes only. We anticipate this information will help inform any concerns raised in the 2010 Strategic Plan update process. There are currently no proposed changes to city ordinances or parking management practices.
