Elections & Voting
To vote in city, county, state and federal elections, you must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years old, mentally sound and not under conviction of a felony. Georgia does not require any length of residence as a condition to registering to vote. To register to vote or to transfer your registration from another Georgia county, apply in person to the DeKalb County Registrar’s Office at 120 W. Trinity Pl.
Decatur City Commission elections are held in odd-number years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Absentee ballots may be obtained from the DeKalb County voter registration office at 4380 Memorial Dr., Decatur, GA 30032 (404-298-4020).

Qualifying
The City of Decatur has elections in odd-numbered years. To qualify as a candidate in these elections you must meet the following requirements:
U.S. citizen
21 years of age
Registered voter in DeKalb County
One-year residence in voting district
State and County Representatives

Decatur City Commission and Decatur Board of Education
The City of Decatur Commissioners officially announce the Call of the City’s nonpartisan General Election to be held in the City of Decatur, Georgia, on November 3, 2009 for three Decatur Board of Education members for four year terms of office, and two City of Decatur Commissioners for four year terms, such terms to begin at the organizational meeting in January 2010.

DeKalb County will conduct the November 3, 2009 municipal election at the following precincts:
District 1 Polling Place:
Clairemont East: First Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, GA
Ponce de Leon: First Christian Church of Decatur, 601 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA
Glenwood: Holy Trinity Parish, 505 East Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA
Clairemont West: Lutheran Church of Messiah, 465 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, GA
District 2 Polling Place:
Oakhurst: Oakhurst Baptist Church, 222 East Lake Dr., Decatur, GA
Renfroe Middle: Renfroe Middle School, 220 West College Avenue, Decatur, GA
Winnona Park: Winnona Park Elementary School, 510 Avery Street, Decatur, GA
If a county election is held in conjunction with the municipal election, all seven county precincts in Decatur will be opened. Please call DeKalb County at 404-298-4020 for voting or registration information.
Each candidate will file the appropriate affidavit notice of his or her candidacy in the office of the City Clerk located at City Hall, 509 North McDonough Street, Decatur, Georgia. The opening date for qualifying will start Monday, August 31, 2009 beginning at 9:00 A. M., and continuing until Friday, September 4, 2009 at
4:30 P.M. The qualifying fee for City Commissioner will be $ 144.00 and $ 35.00 for Board of Education positions.
Voter Registration: Voter registration for the November 3rd Municipal Election will close Monday, October 5, 2009 at 4:30 P.M.
Absentee Voting: Absentee voting will be done at DeKalb County voter registration office, 4380 Memorial Drive Ste. 300, Decatur, Georgia, Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Advanced Voting: Registered voters may vote early during the period from October 12, 2009 through October 30, 2009 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. each day at the DeKalb County Elections office at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur, Georgia.
