Alcoholic Beverage License
All persons or establishments desiring to sell alcoholic beverages in the City of Decatur shall make an application to the City Clerk. The application is sent to the Public Safety Department for a background investigation and once approved is sent to the City Commission for final approval at a regular City Commission meeting. Licenses must be renewed annually. A representative of the Public Safety Department will provide each license holder with the necessary paperwork for renewal. City of Decatur alcohol beverage licenses are issued in accordance with regulations and requirements outlined in Chapter 6 of the City municipal code.

If license is issued after July 1 the amount of the license is 1/2 of fee except the investigation fee.

Persons holding a license from the City of Decatur to sell distilled spirits by the drink for consumption on the premises shall pay excise tax at the rate of $0.22 per liter. Payment is due to the City Clerk by the tenth of each month based upon sales from the previous month.
It is the responsibility of the Alcohol Beverage License holder to ensure that any employee who is serving alcohol has a permit. The employee as well as the ABL holder can receive a citation for failure to acquire permit. The permit expires on December 31 of each year.
