The Waste Management Advisory Board was established by the City Commission. They act as a citizen advisory group on issues of waste management, including the City's recycling efforts and organizing events such as Christmas Tree recycling and Earth Day Celebrations. The board was responsible for developing the Pay-As-You-Throw program, a volume-based initiative that reduces Decatur's contribution to landfills. The Waste Management Advisory Board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, in the Commission meeting room, 509 N. McDonough Street. Current members are Richard Cohen (chair), Rick Goldstein (vice chair), Gary Garrett, Marty Samuels, Stephen Denton and Scott Thompson. The Waste Management Advisory Board is staffed by David Junger, Public Works Director, and Sean Woodson, Sanitation Services Superintendent. Call 404-377-5571 or send an email.
